Emergency Preparedness Committee

Purpose

The Emergency Preparedness Committee equips residents with the knowledge and resources necessary to respond effectively to emergencies, contributing to the overall safety and resilience of the community.

Roles and Duties

  • Preparedness Training: Organize workshops and training sessions on emergency preparedness and response.
  • Resource Distribution: Ensure the availability and distribution of emergency supplies and resources.
  • Emergency Plans: Develop and maintain neighborhood-specific emergency plans and protocols.
  • Coordination with Authorities: Collaborate with local emergency services to enhance community preparedness efforts.

RSTNA is working to get some of our neighbors signed up for San Jose CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) basic training. The goal of CERT is to provide a first line of help in the event of a disaster prior to the on-scene arrival of the city's first responders. It is estimated that since we are at the south end of San Jose, depending on the nature of the disaster, it could take a number of days to get help from city services.

In our RSTNA membership, we've recently had some of our members complete the training. The first part of the training is personal preparation and the second part is more general. Our City Council District has a goal to get 1000 people signed up and certified in CERT. There are currently just over 200 people in the district thave have been certified.

You can take the training either online (with one in person session) or in person. The training is free if you live or work in San Jose. See the link above for details and instructions on how to sign up. After you are certified, San Jose CERT will provide you a backpack with supplies and field gear.

Once you are certified, please let us know so we can include you on our mailing list.
